Web Design Process

Having a web design process makes every project go smooth from start to finish. Although each project will vary slightly depending on the scale or industry, all of our projects go through this general process:

1

Research

Every project begins by soaking up as much knowledge as we can about your organization, competitors, industry, and target market. After thorough research, starting with an in-person or phone interview and design questionairres, we present our findings and make recommendations.
2

Planning

Before we even consider the design, we plan out how the website will be built. The plan includes how the site will be structured, types of content, and how it will be developed. This is usually represented in a site map, a graphical representation of each section of the website and how it connects or relates to each other.
3

Design

The design of the website is based on the results of the previous two phases, as well as tried and tested guidelines for usability, popular website conventions, design aesthetics, and your own branding. The end result is a series of graphic mockups, much like blueprints and artist renderings in architecture, of the look of each of the main layouts. We work back and forth with you until both parties are satisfied with the design.
4

Development

After approval of the website design, we begin the development phase. Our developers produce the graphics and code necessary to turn the design into a working website and the project really comes to life. By the end of this phase, you’ll have essentially a fully built but unfurnished house or office building. Now we’re ready for content.
5

Content

The content of a website is any information you want displayed, including information about you, your organization, your catalog of products and services, and other helpful information for your visitors. Websites are often developed with placeholder text so you can see how the content looks on the page and what type of content you need to provide (such as images, paragraphs of text, or headlines).
6

Testing

Before any website goes live, several rounds of testing make sure all features work as planned, the site looks good on the major web browsers and operating system, required content is in place and formatted correctly, and there are no hardware or software issues. Upon approval, the website can “go live”.
7

Training

Depending on the nature of your website, your website may require some training to administer after launch, such as updating content, checking on order statuses, or managing website members. Most e-commerce or CMS based website functions can be taught within an hour, either through an in-person trainin session or over the phone.
8

Support

It’s inevitable that you’ll have questions, will want to add or modify a feature, or discover a bug or two. Whether you just need help adding a photo or have a new idea you want implement, we're here to help. With our full-time in-office staff, support is just a call or email away.
