Thankfully, the community of Drupal developers have made updating your website so easy that the average training time for our clients is less than 30 minutes. Instead of worrying about the nuts and bolts of how your website is put together, you can focus on updating scores, posting articles, sharing photos, and generating traffic. Despite being extremely powerful and overwhelming for novice users, a properly configured Drupal installation can simplified to just essential tasks for the average user while leaving full control in the hands of a capable administrator.

Our dental marketing division HM Fusion was approached by a rep of a national dental supply company to put together a website to help dentists promote their CEREC services and his study club SD-CEREC.

What started out as a simple information website for patients and dentists has evolved to an effective marketing site for prospective patients and a useful resource for CEREC dentists and prospective owners. Prospective patients can view videos of the procedure, read all about it, and locate dentists in their zip code using Google Maps technology. Dentists have password protected access to online videos, documents, and a calendar of events. Reps can manage dentists who sign up on the website, make study club announcements and track RSVPs, and update their calendar and profile through a secure login.

Since the launch in January 2009, the results have been so positive that 17 more of these CEREC sites have been created for reps throughout the country, with more being added almost weekly. Managing and updating these sites became a growing concern after the first few launched. New features, updates, and refinements have been added on a weekly basis. To handle multiple copies of code while keeping custom settings in place for each site, we developed an elegant system of using CakePHP as a framework to allow us to easily update site functions and database structures. To replicate them across all the sites, we used Subversion combined with a simple script to roll out the changes across our server with a single command.
