The Screen Shot Guide

Screen shots, also known as screen grabs or screen captures, are extremely useful for letting other people see exactly what you see on your monitor. It’s a powerful tool to diagnose browser or computer specific errors. Combined with annotations, screen shots are a great tool for tutorials and documentation. In this guide, we’ll show you our recommended screen shot techniques for both the Windows and Mac operating systems, and well as browser tools. The tools we talk about are entirely free.

Making the switch to Google Apps

We like to inform our clients of the best tools available for their business. Google Apps certainly falls into that category. You get all the benefits of Google's most popular products, including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and even Voice, branded for your business. You can get the benefits of a similarly configured Microsoft Exchange setup at a fraction of the cost. If you have less than 10 users, it's even free.

Share and transfer files using Dropbox

Dropbox.com has become a great tool for syncing files across your own computers and sharing files with others. One of the most handy features is sharing a folder with another dropbox user. Just drag files over your Dropbox folder on your computer and it's automatically synced to anyone you're sharing the folder with. It's perfect for sending multiple files or large files without the hassle of email or FTP programs.

A single page with a purpose is better than an incomplete site

If you're not quite ready to launch your website but you need something up for vistors to see, you're better off putting up a simple page with basic contact info than an incomplete site. "Under construction" and "Coming soon!" pages remind me of the frontier days of the web in the mid to late 1990's, where cheesy "under construction" graphics could mean anything from a week to several years before it's complete. It's not a whole lot, but it looks better than something that's not polished or complete.
